The Spiritual Emergence Network
(SEN) was founded in 1978 by Stanislav Grof, a psychiatrist and
professor at the California Institute of Integral Studies, and his
wife, Christina. They are authors of the book Spiritual Emergency.
The SEN@CIIS Information and Referral Service offers support and
resources for individuals experiencing difficulties with their spiritual
growth. Trained graduate students in the School of Professional
Psychology respond to each caller, providing assistance and educational
information regarding spiritual emergence. The staff can also make
referrals to licensed mental health professionals in the caller's
area. The SEN@CIIS mental health professionals are members of the
National Referral Network. They are respectful of spiritual experience,
familiar with a number of spiritual traditions and indicate that
they are qualified to work with at least one of the following areas
of difficulty: Loss or change of faith, Existential and/ or spiritual
crisis, Experience of unitive consciousness or altered states, Psychic
Openings, Possession, Near-Death Experience, Kundalini, Shamanic
journey, Difficulties with a meditation practice

What is spiritual emergency?
When spiritual seekers or even those who do not consider themselves
to be on a spiritual path find themselves experiencing levels of
awareness or energy transformation that they are unable to handle
or for which they have no reference, then the result can be a state
of emergency. In this state, a person feels highly vulnerable and
oversensitive to incoming stimuli. Typically they feel overwhelmed,
fragmented, fearful, confused and disoriented. With their absorption
in inner processes, they may not be able to look after even basic
self care.

O.P.U.S.: Organization for Paranormal Understanding & Support
OPUS was formed as a response to a need for a "clearing house"
organization to provide referral and research services for unusual
personal experiences. Such experiences may include close encounters
with nonhuman type entities and parapsychological phenomena. Our
two basic goals are to assist persons who are seeking help in dealing
with experiences outside the scope of mainstream health care, and
to be a datagathering body to collect information which may further
